In Managing Students
I once had a student attend a class on an advanced topic. The student was mid-career and in process of a career change, so he had no practical experience. This student challenged me frequently during presentations/discussions, and constantly asked for help during labs. I was delighted to have an opportunity to give extra help to someone who appeared truly engaged and passionate about the subject I was teaching. OOOPS! At the end of these classes we always used a course feedback form. This particular student slammed me completely, indicating I was a poor instructor who talked over the heads of the students and was very un-helpful. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, indeed! What I learned is that I mistook his desperation for "enthusiasm". I thought I was being an instructional hero giving him tons of extra help and holding his hand. I perceived he was delighted with all the extra attention when I went out of my way for him. Instead, it turns out that all along he was really frustrated that he could not overcome his own inability to grasp a difficult subject. I wish I had realized that during the class. What might I have done differently had I realized his situation? I'll comment about that some time soon. But first, I'd love to hear what YOU think I could have done differently (with what little you know from reading this). Feel free to ask questions if you like.

"Rome wasn't built in a day." Neither is our Forum. But we're committed to adding new stuff as close to daily as we can. HOWEVER... You can add stuff too! You probably have some great knowledge, some super-cool web links the whole world should know about, some epiphany you had recently that you wish you knew when you started flying... you get the point. This is the place to flaunt your knowledge.
How come it's so EMPTY in here?? content media

I've been using Sporty's "Study Buddy" for a while now. It has some issues, but overall it's quite decent. What's your favorite and why?

This group is offering free online Ground School. It's not really competing with your Ground School though - most students will want in-person training. Their curriculum might be useful to you. https://wificfi.com
